About...deep pressure furapy
by Human Affairs Correspondent, Snow
I am learning a new trick with my middle-sized person.
My people call it "deep pressing furapy" or perhaps it’s "deep pressure therapy" or maybe "drip presser endopy".
My middle-sized person sits on the floor with her legs straight in front of her. She gets me to walk over her legs. When my front paws are on one side of her legs, and my back paws are on the other, she asks me to stop, then lie down.
She is always very happy when I do it right. She smiles and cuddles me.
I wasn’t sure, at first, why she was asking me to do this.
Often my people make an ‘oooff!’ noise when I sit on them, and then they ask me to get off. I think they find me quite heavy.
I thought perhaps my middle-sized person’s legs get cold and she needs me to warm them up. She does like to wear shorts in cold temperatures.
But that wasn’t it.
Then I thought it might be that she thinks she might float away and needs me to weigh her down. But I’ve never seen her float away before.
Then I noticed that she feels calmer when I sit on her. Her heartbeat slows down and her breathing is more even. She doesn’t smell as… anxious…as usual.
I realised that my middle-sized person feels anxious a lot.
I like doing "Dear fresher terapin" because it is comfy sitting on my middle-sized person’s lap. But I like it even more now I know that I am helping her too.
I am excited about helping my middle-sized friend. I like to make her smile. And I would like to help her feel less anxious as often as I can.
Wags and woofs,
Snow
